Simple homemade deer mineral recipe:
Ingredients:
One large bag of Buck-It DIY Deer Mineral Concentrate
One 50lb bag of loose trace mineral salt
Instructions:
Mix the large bag of Buck-It Mineral Concentrate with half of the loose trace mineral salt. Mix together. Reserve the remainder of the trace mineral salt for refreshing the site in a few months. The minerals in our Buck-It Deer Mineral Concentrate do not leach as quickly as salt, so the salt needs replacing more often.
The best time to start a mineral site is late winter, however late is better than never. Ideal locations include near trail intersections, water sources, and warm season food sources such as soybean fields or food plots .
Finally, a product for the deer manager that enjoys the cost savings of producing their own mineral mix, but is unhappy with the shortcomings of a livestock supplement (dicalcium phosphate) as a deer supplement. This product offers an undiluted 24% calcium, 12% phosphorus, and 1% magnesium, and a full course of vitamins to keep your deer herd in optimum condition. This is the proper ratio of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamins recommended by professional deer managers for maximizing the potential of your deer herd. Simply add the amount of salt needed to get your deer to consume them. Typically this is between 30-60%.
Calcium and phosphorus ratios in the commonly used Dical are not what is the optimum for whitetail deer. Dical also contains no vitamins, meaning that any calcium and phosphorus that is consumed at a mineral site maintained with dical will not likely be absorbed.
